The Orion Ensemble is a chamber music society of which a piano-trio is the permanent core. It was founded in 2000. The Orion Ensemble gave many concerts on Dutch podia characterised by limitless programming as for style, time and country, in which especially the so-called cross-over programmes are popular. One of the strong points of the ensemble is linking up classical, jazz, Jewish, Spanish and Argentine music in an original way.

All the time a lot of energy is - and still is -put into searching for new material on account of which the ensemble has built up a unique repertoire that is unprecedented in the piano-trio history. The Orion Ensemble is credited with a good deal of world premières.
With one of those premières, a composition of pianist Leonard Leutscher, the ensemble became finalist and price winner of the first International Jewish Music Competition in 2008.
The Orion Ensemble released five cd's.

The Orion Ensemble distinguishes itself by its versatile, original, and thematic choice of repertoire. Each of the programmes offered has a thread. Every programme is built up playfully around a theme.

The core of the Orion Ensemble, a piano trio, is extended by singers and instrumentalists if required by the overall thread of the programme. The music is elucidated by Leonard Leutscher in a compelling way. He leads his audience to the world of the composer and the latter’s ideas. To many people this formula contributes to their enjoyment of the music.
