Robert and Clara Schumann, a life-time together

E-mail Print PDF
As appears from letters and diary fragments of the Schumann couple Clara had a deeply felt admiration for the creative power of her husband. Although she owns to experience no greater pleasure than composing herself, she describes her compositions and in particular her Trio as “Frauenzimmerarbeit, always lacking in power and occasionally in inventiveness. Well, in later centuries we cannot agree with this. This statement rather shows her immense love of Robert and the wish to take a modest position beside him. In this programme , e.g., the moving piano quartet opus 47 by Robert Schumann and the gentle trio opus 17 by Clara Schumann Wieck. A glimpse behind the front door of the Schumann home where a tragic but also rich life full of love and loyalty took place.
