A Spanish day and Argentine nights

E-mail Print PDF
A Spanish Day and Argentine nights is a story by Jan Terlouw dealing with the power of love. As a source of inspiration he used two compositions in both of which the theme is a cycle: Las Cuatro Estaciones Portenas by Astor Piazzolla and Circulo by Joaquin Turina. The year with its four seasons and the day with its morning, afternoon and evening.

The story takes place in two different worlds. The world of the self-confident bon vivant Miguel and that of the ravishing but modest Michaela. An Argentine year and a Spanish day. Music and text are wholly interwoven. They intensify each other. The intensity and expressiveness of Piazzolla’s Estaciones, the seasons, make the background of Miguel’s life. Because of his fiery temperament he is torn between extremes. In Circulo you witness the unforgettable day Miguel and Michaela spend together. In the end the year has come full circle, the day having become a point in time. Oblivion finishes off the story: the end of two lives in which love has left its indelible traces.
