Composers' Portraits

E-mail Print PDF
The last few years the Orion Ensemble, by request, has very successfully organised a number of composers’ days. The programme covers two parts of a day. A class-unit in which the composer is portrayed in a listening-lesson, illustrated with visual material and audio samples.

After lunch or dinner a unit in which one or more significant chamber-music works by the composer are being performed, preceded by explanatory comment fitting in with the previous listening-lesson. The day’s programme can be composed by mutual agreement. Examples:

  • Day around Dimitri Shostakovitch, with Piano trio nr. 2 and String-quartet nr. 8
  • Day around Johannes Brahms with Violin sonata nr. 1 and Trio opus 36
  • Day around Robert Schumann, with the Piano-quartet and the Piano-quintet.
  • Day around Maurice Ravel, with the Sonata for violin and piano, the Sonata for violin and cello and the Trio for violin, cello, and piano.
